about your host Isunga Community Tours

We are a organised group of people from Isunga village at the edge of Kibale National Park. We offer the best experiences around Fortportal and Kibale with an aim of conserving wildlife, batooro and bakiga culture.

about the experience

The tooro dance is called “Kinyege” where the dancers are dressed in traditional dancing attire and instruments such as local drums among others are used. This is all about the Tooro culture the way people dance and its started by the Tooro kingdom anthem and followed by the instruments with voices like bird in air of Tooro songs. In this activity visitors may participate in dancing if they want in order to learn how the Batooro dance. This dance is mainly done in marriage ceremonies as the way of communication between the boy and the girl (it is performed with a lot of eager and skill intended to impress the woman of interest to pick out the right man). Also, we have the Tooro royal dance called ‘Amakondere’ which are normally danced in the presence of the king mainly on coronation day. This is the traditional dance for Bakiga who also live in Tooro kingdom but migrated from south western Uganda in the districts of Kabale. They are famous for being energetic and they work from morning to evening with a short rest taking their local beverage ‘Obushera’. This means that their dance is so strong and most of the time perform this dance was they celebrate their harvest as they clap their hands, drumming, etc. and rhythmic singing led by a lead singer.
